Number of jobseekers decreases by 2.9 % within one year

16.642 available resident jobseekers were registered with ADEM on 28 February 2018. Within one year, this is a decrease of 493 persons or 2.9%. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 5.7 %.

The decrease of unemployment is particularly beneficial to jobseekers under 30 years of age (-8.7 %) and low-skilled jobseekers (- 4.8 %). The number of long-term unemployed jobseekers decreased by 5.7 %. However, the number of jobseekers holding a higher education diploma increased by 179 persons or 6.2 %.

On 28 February 2018, 5.062 people took part in employment measures. Within one year, this number decreased by 127 persons or 2.4 %. However, following the legislative changes in August 2017, some major changes were reported in the “professionalisation internship” (stage de professionnalisation) where the number of beneficiaries increased significantly and in the “compensated temporary occupation” (occupations temporaires indemnisées) where the number of beneficiaries decreased by 32.9 %.

During February 2018, Luxembourg employers declared 3.121 job vacancies to ADEM, 170 (- 5.2 %) less than in February 2017.
