14 773 resident jobseekers who are available for the Luxembourg labour market were registered with ADEM on 31 October 2018. Compared to October 2017, this represents a decrease of 962 persons or 6.1%. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate calculated by the STATEC is 5.3%.
Especially young jobseekers under the age of 30 benefit from the decreasing unemployment (-11.4%) as well as low-skilled jobseekers (-7.9%). The number of long-term unemployed jobseekers decreased by 6.9% and the number of jobseekers with disabilities decreased by 7.3% within one year.
As of 31 October, 2018, 34 jobseekers are preparing a project to create or take over a business as provided for in Article 521-9 of the Labor Code. This is a new provision which allows the ADEM to exempt jobseekers, under certain conditions and for a limited period of time, from the obligation to accept any suitable job.
On 31 October 2018, 4,845 persons took part in employment measures which represents a decrease of 264 persons or 6.6% compared to October 2017.
During the month of October 2018, a total of 3,814 vacant positions have been declared to ADEM by Luxembourg employers which are 60 vacant positions less than in October 2017 (+1,8%). The stock of the vacant positions counting 7.916 job vacancies, still is at a very high level.
