Number of jobseekers decreases by 8.6 % within one year

14 408 jobseekers, residing in Luxembourg and available for the labour market, were registered with ADEM on 30 November 2018. Compared to November 2017, this represents a decrease of 1.352 persons or 8.6 %. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by STATEC, is at 5.2 %.

Especially young jobseekers under the age of 30 benefit from the decreasing unemployment (-13.9 %) as well as low-skilled jobseekers (-8.5 %). The number of long-term unemployed decreased by 5.3 % whereas the number of jobseekers with disabilities decreased by 7.7 % within one year.

As of 30 November 2018, 4.284 persons took part in employment measures. This represents a decrease of 85 persons (-1.9 %). Please note that jobseekers who are benefitting from a professional integration activity, organised by the National Service for Social Action (SNAS), are no longer included in ADEM’s statistics. In the context of the new law on social inclusion income (REVIS), which will enter into force on 1 January 2019, these people will no longer be supervised by ADEM, but exclusively by the National Office for Social Inclusion (ONIS).

During the month of November 2018, a total of 3.136 vacant positions have been declared to ADEM by Luxembourg employers which are 344 (+12.3 %) more than in November 2017. The stock of vacant positions still is very high and amounts up to 7.497 in November 2018.
