Number of jobseekers decreases by 6.8% within one year

15 508 jobseekers residing in Luxembourg and available for the labour market, were registered with ADEM on 28 February 2019. Compared to February 2018, this represents a decrease of 1 134 persons or 6.8%. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by STATEC, is 5.2%. Compared to January 2019, the number of available resident jobseekers increased by 351. Such an increase is unusual, as seasonal variations mean that the number of jobseekers usually drops between January and February. It can be explained by the registration of beneficiaries of the Social Inclusion Income (REVIS), following the entry into force of the new law in this area.

2 2672 non-resident jobseekers were registered with ADEM on 28 February 2019. Compared to February 2018, this represents a decrease of 2.2% compared to February 2018. If the number of non-resident jobseekers with reduced work capacity (external reclassification) decreases, the number of non-residents without this status is up compared to February 2018.

During the month of February 2019, the ADEM opened 2 521 new files of resident jobseekers, an increase of 26% compared to February 2018. In addition, 614 new files of unemployed jobseekers residents were opened, which corresponds to a 115% increase over February 2018.
