Unemployment rate rises to 5.2%

The number of available registered jobseekers at ADEM stood at 15,333 as of June 30, 2023, an increase of 1,695 people (12.4%) compared to June 2022. This number of jobseekers has increased for all durations of unemployment except for those whose registration duration exceeds 12 months. The most highly qualified jobseekers (higher education graduates) and individuals under 30 years old experienced the largest increases. In terms of occupations, the most significant increases were observed in secretarial and administrative support, culinary production and restaurant services, accounting and management, as well as general construction and finishing works.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by STATEC, is 5.2%, higher than the previous month (5.0%).

The number of new jobseeker registrations is on the rise. In June 2023, 2,337 residents registered with ADEM, representing an increase of 181 people or 8.4% compared to June 2022. It should be noted that the new registrations for this month include 88 registrations of beneficiaries of temporary protection (refugees from Ukraine).

The number of resident jobseekers receiving unemployment benefits has increased by 1,330 people or 19.3% over the past year, reaching 8,210. The number of participants in an employment measure stands at 4,254, which is below the level observed in June 2022 (-195 people or -4.4%).

During June 2023, employers reported 3,499 vacant positions to ADEM, which corresponds to a decrease of 17.7% compared to June 2022. This decline in the number of reported positions affects nearly all activity sectors, but above all the sectors of commerce, specialised scientific and technical activities, administrative and support services, as well as human health and social work. The number of available positions stands at 9,488 as of June 30, 2023. The year-on-year decline is 30.2%.
