More than 18,000 jobseekers and an unemployment rate of 5.5%

The number resident jobseekers  registered with ADEM was 18,198 as of December 31, 2023, an increase of 2,438 individuals (or 15.5%) compared to December 2022.

This number of jobseekers is on the rise for all durations of unemployment. The most qualified jobseekers (higher education graduates) as well as individuals under 30 experience the most significant increases.

In terms of professions, the most substantial increases are observed in the construction industry (ROME category F), communication, media, and multimedia (category E), financial and real estate sector (category C), industry (category H), information technology (category M18), accounting (M12), and business strategy (M17).

The unemployment rate, adjusted for seasonal variations and calculated by STATEC, stands at 5.5%.

The number of new registrations of jobseekers is increasing. 2,278 residents registered with ADEM in December 2023, representing an increase of 96 individuals or 4.4% compared to December 2022. It is noteworthy that new registrations for this month include 76 registrations from beneficiaries of temporary protection (refugees from Ukraine).

The number of resident jobseekers receiving unemployment benefits has increased by 2,146 individuals or 28% over the year, reaching 9,820 as of December 31, 2023. The number of beneficiaries of an employment measure stands at 4,086, showing a slight increase (1.9%) compared to December 2022.

During December 2023, employers declared 2,226 job vacancies to ADEM, corresponding to a decrease of 16.9% compared to December 2022.

The total number of available positions at the end of the month is 6,997 as of December 31,2023. The year-on-year decline is 36%. This decrease mainly affects the fields of business consulting (ROME category M14), information technology (category M18), transportation and logistics (category N), construction (category F), and hospitality - catering, tourism, leisure, and entertainment (category G).
