Of the 425,000 workers in Luxembourg in 2016, 94% are employees. Of these employees, 94% have an open-ended contract.
Any employer wishing to recruit an employee must conclude an employment contract. This section explains the different employment contracts for employees.
Duration of working time
The employer and the employee are bound by an employment contract specifying, among other things, the weekly working time. In order to organise working time, the employer must comply with specific regulations described in this section.
Each employee is entitled to a minimum of 25 working days of paid leave per year. Additionally, the employee may apply for special leave.
Termination of working contract
In case of termination of a work contract (dismissal or resignation) the terminating party must respect certain procedures and periods of notice.
