The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM was 19,762 on 31 July 2020. Over one year, this represents an increase of 4,094 people, i.e. 26.1%. Compared to the previous month, however, there was a very slight decrease (114 people, or 0.6%). The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by STATEC, stands at 6.6%.
This increase in unemployment observed during July was mainly due to a drop in numbers of jobseekers leaving the ADEM towards the labour market, rather than an increase in new registrations. In July 2020, ADEM opened 2,228 new files for resident jobseekers, a decrease of 14.4% compared to July 2019. At the same time, the number of files closed fell from 2,360 in July 2019 to 2,146 in July 2020. While there still is a decrease in the number of cases closed compared to last year, the difference is much smaller in July than in previous months.
The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefit rose by 2 508 or 33.6% compared to last year and is just below the 10 000 mark. Compared with the previous month, this number fell by 273 persons or 2.7%.
The number of people benefiting from an employment measure decreased by 83 people or 2.1% compared to July 2019.
During the month of July 2020, employers reported 2,899 job vacancies to ADEM, a decrease of 26% compared to July 2019. Compared with the previous month, the number of jobs reported decreased by 104 units or 3.5%.
