Fewer new registrations but also fewer job offers in December 2022

The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM stood at 15,760 on 31 December 2022, a decrease of 643 persons (-3.9%) compared to December 2021. The number of jobseekers is mainly decreasing for jobseekers whose registration period is longer than 12 months. If we compare the number of jobseekers with the number of jobseekers in November, we can see an increase of 1,138 people (+7.8%). This increase mainly concerns people over 45 years of age.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate calculated by STATEC is 4.8%.

The number of new jobseeker registrations is falling. In fact, 2,182 residents registered with ADEM during December 2022, a decrease of 78 people or 3.5% compared to December 2021. It should be noted that this month's new registrations include 87 registrations of beneficiaries of temporary protection (refugees from Ukraine).

The number of resident jobseekers receiving unemployment benefit decreased by 55 persons or 0.7% year-on-year to 7,674. The number of beneficiaries of an employment measure stands at 4,008 and is below the level observed in December 2021 (-217 people, or 5.1%).

During December 2022, employers reported 2,679 vacancies to ADEM, a decrease of 17.8% compared to last year. The number of available positions stands at 10,925 as of December 31, 2022. The year-over-year increase is 6.9%.
