The unemployment rate is 4.9%

The number of resident jobseekers registered with ADEM was 15,801 as at 31 January 2023, an increase of 331 people (or 2.1%) compared to January 2022.

The number of jobseekers is up for all vacancy durations except for those with a registration duration of more than 12 months.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate calculated by STATEC was 4.9%, slightly higher than the previous month (4.8%).

The number of new jobseeker registrations is on the rise. In fact, 2,893 residents registered with ADEM in January 2023, an increase of 534 people or 22.6% compared to January 2022. It should be noted that this month's new registrations include 90 registrations of beneficiaries of temporary protection (refugees from Ukraine).

The number of resident jobseekers receiving unemployment benefit rose by 370 people or 4.9% year-on-year to 7,961. The number of participants in an employment measure stands at 4,107 and is below the level observed in January 2022 (-191 persons, or 4.4%).

During January 2023, employers reported 4,266 job vacancies to ADEM, an increase of 4.5% compared to January 2022. The number of available jobs stands at 10,988 as of January 31, 2023. The year-over-year increase is 2.0%.
