18,625 jobseekers and an unemployment rate rising to 5.9%

The number of resident jobseekers available and registered with ADEM stood at 18,625 on 30 November 2024, an increase of 1,186 people (or 6.8%) compared to November 2023.

This increase primarily concerns jobseekers registered for more than 7 months, jobseekers over the age of 30, and the most qualified jobseekers (graduates of higher education).

In terms of professions, the most significant increases are observed in road transport driving professions (ROME category N41), culinary production (category G16), IT (M18), and banking (C12).

The unemployment rate, adjusted for seasonal variations and calculated by STATEC, rises to 5.9%.

The number of new jobseeker registrations has slightly decreased. In fact, 2,664 residents registered with ADEM during November 2024, representing a decline of 146 people or 5.2% compared to November 2023. It is worth noting that the new registrations this month include 83 registrations of beneficiaries of temporary protection (refugees from Ukraine).

The number of resident jobseekers receiving unemployment benefits increased by 1,070 people or 11.3% over the year, reaching 10,533 as of 30 November. The number of individuals benefiting from an employment measure stands at 4,395, a rise of 4.3% compared to November 2023.

During November 2024, employers declared 2,535 vacant positions to ADEM, similar to the volume in November 2023. The total number of positions available at the end of the month stands at 6,140 as of 30 November 2024. The year-on-year decrease is 16.3%. This decline (in newly declared positions and the stock at the end of the month) primarily affects professions in IT (ROME category M18), banking (category C12), and building finishing work (F16).
