Maison de l'Orientation

(educational and vocational guidance centre)

What is the Maison de l’orientation?

The Maison de l’orientation is a government administration that brings together, in one location, public bodies active in the field of educational and vocational guidance. The services provided by the Maison de l’orientation are available to anyone seeking advice on educational and vocational guidance, with a view to identifying their abilities, skills and interests, making informed decisions about their choice of studies and training, and planning their career. It comprises the following services:

  • the SCMO (Service de coordination de la Maison de l’orientation), which, in collaboration with stakeholders, coordinates the implementation of the Maison de l’orientation’s missions. As part of its role as a resource centre for schools, the SCMO organises regular discussions between the coordinators of secondary schools’ guidance units, guidance counsellors, teachers and other stakeholders. It also develops educational materials to support pupils, teachers and parents throughout the guidance process. In addition, the SCMO organises information sessions for the general public on various topics, such as writing a CV or cover letter, preparing for a job interview and opportunities to study abroad.

  • the ADEM-OP (Service d’Orientation Professionnelle de l’ADEM), which assists anyone seeking career guidance or wishing to change careers and provides a wide range of information and documents relating to occupations and career choices. ADEM-OP also organises individual career guidance interviews and manages apprenticeship placement. Through its close links with the labour market, ADEM-OP provides personalised services that reflect the realities of employment.

  • the CePAS (Centre psycho-social et d’accompagnement scolaires), which provides young people in secondary schools with psychological, psychotherapeutic and educational support. Acting as a coordination platform between pupils, their families and teachers, the CePAS identifies each pupil’s abilities and works closely with ADEM-OP to provide pupils with targeted guidance.

  • the SIA (Service de l’Intégration et de l’Accueil scolaires), which welcomes families who have recently arrived in Luxembourg. The service informs and advises pupils and their parents on all matters relating to Luxembourg’s school system. Individual follow-up is subsequently offered for a period of two years.

  • the ATVA (Agence pour la Transition vers une Vie Autonome), which, together with the 8 Centres de compétences en psycho-pédagogie spécialisée, forms part of a network established by the ministère de l’Éducation nationale, de l’Enfance et de la Jeunesse to promote inclusive education.

On a voluntary basis, the educational and psychosocial staff of the ATVA facilitate the transition to working life for young people whose specific needs have been confirmed by a specialised diagnosis carried out by a Centre de compétences en psycho-pédagogie spécialisée.

  • the Orientation Adultes service, which is aimed at all adults seeking information and advice about continuing vocational training or lifelong learning.

  • the European Euroguidance network, which is aimed at professionals working in the field of educational and vocational guidance

Missions

Through its various stakeholders, the Maison de l’orientation covers every stage of the guidance process: identifying interests, abilities and skills; providing information about education and training opportunities and occupations; and supporting people in the steps required to access training, an apprenticeship or employment.

Who is concerned

The Maison de l’orientation is open to anyone, whether an adolescent or an adult, seeking guidance regarding their school education, studies or working life. Please note that some services are only available to people aged between 14 and 22.

How to proceed

For people aged between 14 and 22:

At the Espace conseil of the Maison de l’orientation, people aged between 14 and 22 can benefit from a free and anonymous individual interview. Interviews can take place in person or online. The Maison de l’orientation welcomes anyone who has questions about educational guidance and/or vocational training.

It is advisable to book an appointment via MyGuichet.lu. However, it is also possible to visit without an appointment. In this case, there may be a waiting time, as people with appointments are given priority.

Through the new coaching service offered by the Maison de l’orientation, young people receive support in identifying their interests, skills and strengths and in defining a suitable educational or career path.
