Unemployment rate drops to 5.8% in early 2025, job vacancies on the rise

The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM stands at 19,431 as of 31 January 2025, an increase of 1,114 people (or 6.1%) compared to January 2024.

This increase primarily concerns jobseekers who have been registered for 7 months or longer, those over 30 years old, and the most qualified jobseekers (graduates of higher education).

In terms of occupations, the most significant increases are seen in the fields of information technology (ROME category M18), road transport driving (category N41), culinary production (G16), banking (C12), and accounting (M12).

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by STATEC, falls back to 5.8%.

The number of new registrations from residents has slightly decreased. In January 2025, 3,119 residents registered with ADEM, representing a decrease of 28 people, or 0.9%, compared to January 2024.

The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits has increased by 916 people, or 8.4%, year-on-year, reaching 11,837 as of 31 January. The number of participants in employment support measures stands at 4,332, stable compared to January 2024.

In January 2025, employers declared 3,426 vacant positions to ADEM, which represents a 14.6% increase compared to January 2024. The total number of available positions at the end of the month stands at 6,545 as of 31 January 2025. The year-on-year decline is 6%. This decrease particularly impacts occupations in accounting (ROME category M12), information technology (category M18), banking (C12), and warehousing (N11).
