Unemployment rate stable and increase in job vacancies declared in December
As of 31 December 2025, the number of resident jobseekers registered with ADEM stood at 21,090, representing an increase of 1,558 persons (+8.0%) compared with December 2024.
The increase observed over a twelve-month period is driven in particular by the most highly qualified jobseekers (tertiary education graduates: +17.7% year on year). By age group, developments vary slightly, with increases ranging from 7.1% among those aged over 45 to 8.9% among jobseekers aged 30 to 44. The increase among young jobseekers amounts to 8.1%.
With regard to the occupations sought, the data confirm the trends observed in previous months: the most pronounced increases concern occupations in secretarial and administrative support (ROME category M16), information technology (category M18) and accounting (category M12).
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by STATEC, remains stable at 6.2%.
The number of new registrations of jobseekers has increased: in December 2025, 2,815 residents registered with ADEM as jobseekers, representing an increase of 20.9% compared with December 2024.
The number of residents receiving unemployment benefits declined by 18.6% over one year, to stand at 8,739 persons as of 31 December 2025. This result is, however, influenced by extensive adjustments to ADEM’s IT systems implemented since mid-November 2025, which affect the timing of the statistical recording of newly eligible jobseekers. As a result of these technical changes, catch-up and smoothing effects are expected to continue to be felt in the coming months.
The number of persons participating in employment support measures amounts to 4,269, an increase of 3.8% compared with December 2024.
During December 2025, employers declared 2,555 job vacancies to ADEM, representing a significant increase of 7.1% compared with December 2024. The stock of available jobs, however, declined: compared with December 2024, the number of vacancies stood at a total of 5,472, corresponding to a year-on-year decrease of 7.8%. The sharpest declines were recorded in accounting (ROME category M12), secretarial and administrative support (category M16), and information technology (category M18).
