Slight decline in the unemployment rate and increase in job vacancies reported in May

As of 31 May 2026, ADEM recorded 19,674 resident jobseekers available for work, representing an increase of 1,205 persons compared with May 2025 (+6.5% year-on-year).

This year-on-year increase remains particularly pronounced among the most highly qualified jobseekers (+15.1%). All age groups recorded an increase compared with the previous year, although this increase was less significant than in recent months, especially among jobseekers under the age of 30 (+2.9%, compared with an annual increase of 8.0% recorded last month).

In terms of occupations sought, the largest increases were observed in secretarial and administrative support occupations (ROME category M16), information technology occupations (ROME category M18), and banking occupations (ROME category C12).

The unemployment rate, adjusted for seasonal variations and calculated by STATEC, stood at 6.2%, a slight decrease compared with the previous month.

In May, the number of new registrations of resident jobseekers decreased by 1.4% year-on-year (2,239 residents registered in May 2026, compared with 2,271 in May 2025).

As of 31 May 2026, the number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits stood at 9,842, representing a decrease of 6.8% compared with the previous year.

The number of resident jobseekers with the status of vocational redeployment beneficiaries and receiving either a transitory allowance (IA) or a professional transitory allowance (IPA) amounted to 1,551, corresponding to a slight year-on-year increase of 1.3%.
