Unemployment rate stable at 6.3%, alongside an accelerating increase in job vacancies

As of 31 July 2026, ADEM had 19,943 registered resident jobseekers available for employment, representing 1,547 more people than at the end of July 2025 (+8.4% year-on-year).

This year-on-year increase is almost twice as high among the most highly qualified jobseekers (+16.3%), who account for one-third of all jobseekers concerned. In terms of age groups, the increase is more pronounced among younger people (+10% year-on-year) and less pronounced among those aged 45–64 (+6.8% year-on-year).

In terms of occupations sought, the largest increases concern jobs in information technology (ROME category M18), cleaning and industrial cleaning services (ROME category K22), banking (ROME category C12), and law (ROME category K19). Business support occupations are also particularly sought after, with increased demand for positions in accounting and management (ROME category M12), secretarial and administrative assistance (ROME category M16), as well as organisation and research (ROME category M14).

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by STATEC, stands at 6.3%.

In July 2026, the number of new registrations of resident jobseekers decreased by 1.9% year-on-year, with 2,799 new registrations, compared with 2,854 in July 2025.

The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits stood at 10,148[1] at the end of the month. A further 1,587 jobseekers[2] had professional redeployment status and were receiving either a waiting allowance (IA) or a professional waiting allowance (IPA).

The number of residents benefiting from an employment support measure stood at 4,441, representing an increase of 5.7% compared with July 2025.

Non-resident jobseekers

As regards non-residents, 870 people registered with ADEM in July 2026 (+16.0% year-on-year). The number of available non-resident jobseekers stood at 4,128 (+24.5% year-on-year). Among them, 2,482 held the status of persons undergoing external professional redeployment and were therefore eligible for financial assistance from ADEM under the same conditions as residents. This latter category increased by 9.5% year-on-year.

The other non-residents registered with ADEM had registered voluntarily and were not entitled to any financial assistance. At the end of July 2026, this category comprised 1,646 people, representing an increase of 56.9% year-on-year.

In July 2026, 1,068 non-resident jobseekers with external professional redeployment status received full unemployment benefits, while 1,863 received either a waiting allowance (IA) or a professional waiting allowance (IPA)[3].

Job vacancies

In July 2026, employers reported 3,754 job vacancies to ADEM, representing a sharp 12.8% increase compared with July 2025.

The stock of available job vacancies at the end of the month stood at 7,183 positions, an increase of 6.5% year-on-year.

The occupations recording the strongest year-on-year increases were in the fields of paramedical care (ROME category J15), information and telecommunications systems (ROME category M18), social, socio-educational and socio-cultural services (ROME category K12), construction (ROME category F11), and organisation and research (ROME category M14).
