Unemployment Benefit Applications Now Fully Online – Less Bureaucracy, More Time Saved
A new law, which came into force on 1 January 2026, requires that applications for unemployment benefits be submitted exclusively online.
For individuals needing support with the online process, ADEM provides personalised assistance.
The process is simple: anyone wishing to apply for unemployment benefits must first be registered as jobseeker with ADEM. Based on the data provided during registration, ADEM automatically checks whether the applicant may be entitled to benefits.
If eligibility is likely, jobseekers receive a letter from ADEM inviting them to submit their application online via their private MyGuichet.lu account. Secure authentication is required, using a LuxTrust product, the Luxembourg electronic ID (eID), or an eIDAS certificate from an EU member state.
The online application on MyGuichet.lu has been designed to be user-friendly and intuitive. Applications can be completed easily on a smartphone, PC, or laptop, with helpful info boxes explaining individual entry fields, and supporting documents can be uploaded in just a few clicks. The number of required documents has also been significantly reduced to simplify the process.
Once the application is fully submitted, ADEM automatically begins the review process. All further communication with ADEM also takes place online via the MyADEM section, integrated into the private MyGuichet.lu area and automatically activated for every unemployment benefit recipient.
For applicants without the necessary authentication tools or suitable technology, ADEM continues to provide support. In such cases, a simple call to the ADEM Contact Centre (Tel. 247-88 888) is sufficient, and trained ADEM counsellors offer personalised guidance.
Early feedback on the online process, developed in collaboration with the State Information Technology Centre (CTIE), has been positive: since the voluntary test launch on 10 November 2025, 2,165 unemployment benefit applications have been submitted online, 88% of them entirely independently.
Applicants who required assistance from specially trained ADEM advisors have praised the availability of human support throughout the process, highlighting its value in ensuring a smooth and reliable application experience.
