Number of declared vacancies on the rise again and unemployment rate stable at 6.3%

As of 31 March 2026, ADEM recorded 20,491 registered resident jobseekers available for work, representing an increase of 1,588 people compared with March 2025 (i.e. +8.4% year-on-year).

As in previous months, this increase particularly affects the most highly qualified jobseekers (+17.4%). In terms of age groups, a marked rise is observed among those aged 30–44 (+10.1%). Regarding the occupations sought, trends have remained similar for several months: the largest increases concern jobs in secretarial and administrative support (ROME category M16), IT (category M18), and accounting (category M12).

The unemployment rate, seasonally adjusted and calculated by STATEC, remains stable at 6.3%.

The number of new registrations of resident jobseekers increased by 3.2% year-on-year: 2,805 residents registered in March 2026, compared with 2,718 in March 2025.

As of 31 March 2026, the number of resident jobseekers receiving unemployment benefits stood at 10,068, representing a decrease of 7.1% year-on-year.

The number of resident jobseekers with professional redeployment status receiving waiting allowance amounted to 1,530, corresponding to a slight increase of 0.9% year-on-year.

The number of residents benefiting from an employment support measure stood at 4,445, a slight decrease (-0.8%) compared with March 2025.

As regards non-residents, ADEM recorded 4,354 registered jobseekers available for work at the end of March, representing an increase of 25.4% year-on-year. Among them, 55.9% have external professional redeployment status and are therefore eligible, under the same conditions as residents, for financial support paid by ADEM. For this category, the increase in registrations over one year is 12.9%.

The second category of non-residents registered with ADEM consists of individuals who register as jobseekers on a purely voluntary basis, without receiving financial support. This group accounted for 1,919 people as of 31 March 2026, i.e. 44.1% of non-resident jobseekers. The increase in this group remains particularly significant, as already observed in previous months, and currently stands at +45.8% compared with March 2025.
