Unemployment rate rises to 6.4% despite an increase in job vacancies

As of 30 June 2026, ADEM had 19,619 registered resident jobseekers available for work, representing an increase of 1,733 people compared with the end of June 2025 (+9.7% year-on-year).

This year-on-year increase is particularly pronounced among highly qualified jobseekers (+19.1%). It is also observed across all age groups, with the sharpest rise among those aged 30 to 44 (+12.8% year-on-year).

By occupation, the largest increases in the number of jobseekers were recorded in secretarial and administrative support (ROME category M16), information technology (ROME category M18), accounting and financial management (ROME category M12), and banking (ROME category C12).

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by STATEC, stands at 6.4%.

In June 2026, the number of new resident jobseeker registrations increased by 3.0% compared with the previous year, with 2,478 new registrations, up from 2,406 in June 2025.

At the end of the month, 9,904 resident jobseekers were receiving unemployment benefits. In addition, 1,573 resident jobseekers with vocational redeployment status were receiving either the waiting allowance (IA) or the vocational waiting allowance (IPA).

The number of residents participating in employment support measures stood at 4,605, an increase of 3.4% compared with June 2025.

Among non-residents, 784 people registered with ADEM in June 2026, representing a 15.8% increase year-on-year. The number of registered non-resident jobseekers available for work reached 4,144 (+25.2% year-on-year), including 2,421 people with external vocational redeployment status.

For this latter group, whose numbers increased by 9.7% over the year, the eligibility criteria for financial assistance paid by ADEM are the same as those applicable to residents. The remaining registered non-resident jobseekers registered voluntarily with ADEM and are not entitled to financial assistance. At the end of June, this group numbered 1,723 people, representing an increase of 55.9% compared with a year earlier.

In June 2026, 1,057 non-resident jobseekers with external vocational redeployment status received full unemployment benefits, while 1,849 received either the transition allowance (IA) or the professional transition  allowance (IPA).

In June 2026, employers notified ADEM of 3,167 job vacancies, an increase of 7.2% compared with June 2025. At the end of the month, the stock of available job vacancies stood at 7,081, up 3.1% year-on-year.

The strongest year-on-year growth in vacancies was recorded in the following occupations:

• Construction design and engineering (ROME category F11);
• Industrial cleaning and hygiene (ROME category K22);
• Social, socio-educational and socio-cultural services (ROME category K12); and
• Paramedical occupations (ROME category J15).
