Rentrée 2025: More jobseekers and more reported job vacancies
As of 30 September 2025, the number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM stood at 18,920, representing an increase of 1,187 persons (+6.7%) compared to September 2024.
This rise is particularly pronounced among highly qualified jobseekers, whose number has grown by 14.1% year-on-year. The upward trend is not limited to those aged over 45: both the 30–44 age group and the 45+ group recorded an increase of 7.2% over the year, while the number of jobseekers under 30 rose by 4.7%.
At the occupational level, the data confirm the trends observed in previous months. The strongest increases were recorded in the fields of accounting (ROME category M12), secretarial and administrative support (M16), information technology (M18), and road transport driving (N41).
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by STATEC, stood at 6.1%.
The number of newly registered jobseekers has also increased. In September 2025, 3,429 residents registered with ADEM, representing a 5.2% increase compared to September 2024.
Conversely, the number of resident jobseekers receiving unemployment benefits decreased by 553 persons
(-5.4%) year-on-year, standing at 9,615 as of 30 September. This decline continues the downward trend observed since January 2025. The number of participants in employment measures stood at 4,367, a slight decrease of 1.9% compared to September 2024.
During September 2025, employers reported 3,350 job vacancies to ADEM, marking a significant increase of 7.7% compared to September 2024. The construction sector (ROME categories F17, F16) recorded the largest growth during the month.
As of 30 September 2025, the total number of available job vacancies stood at 6,668, representing a slight decrease of 1.0% compared to September 2024. This decline mainly concerns accounting occupations (ROME category M12).
