The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM stood at 17,470 as of May 31, 2024, an increase of 2,282 people (or 15%) compared to May 2023. This number of jobseekers has increased for all durations of unemployment.
The most significant increases were seen among the most qualified jobseekers (those with higher education degrees) and individuals under 30 years old. In terms of occupations, the most notable increases were in construction jobs (ROME category F), the financial and real estate sector (category C), industry (category H), installation and maintenance (category I), accounting (M12), and IT (M18).
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, calculated by STATEC, is 5.7%.
The number of new jobseeker registrations is also on the rise. In fact, 2,294 residents registered with ADEM in May 2024, an increase of 58 people or 2.6% compared to May 2023. It should be noted that the new registrations this month included 51 registrations of beneficiaries of temporary protection (refugees from Ukraine).
The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits increased by 2,183 people or 25.5% year-on-year, reaching 10,130 as of May 31. The number of participants in an employment measure is 4,536, an increase of 7% compared to May 2023.
In May 2024, employers declared 3,489 vacancies to ADEM, a number similar to that of May 2023. The total number of available positions at the end of the month was 8,025 as of May 31. The year-on-year decrease is 17.1%. This decline mainly affects accounting and management jobs (ROME category M12), IT (category M18), the financial and real estate sector (category C), secondary trades (category F16), legal professions (category K19), and warehousing, handling, and moving jobs (category N11).
